Our First Holiday Let

The Garden Bothy

One of the projects that we had often thought about at Preston Hall was to create a holiday cottage on the estate, so when the family living in the Garden Bothy let us know that they were moving we leapt at the opportunity to convert the cottage into a holiday home available for short term lets.

The cottage was originally built as accommodation for the junior gardeners that looked after the gardens at Preston Hall. The cottage is positioned just outside the walled garden walls, a short distance from the Head Gardeners cottage. Rumours suggest that the reason for this was so that the Head Gardner could make sure that he could keep an eye on the gardens from one window, whilst making sure his team were not partying too hard from the other side of his cottage!

The cottage’s location has something for everyone whether it be golf in East Lothian, Mountain Biking in Innerleithen, exploring in Edinburgh or just a quite escape to read a book by the fire.

We have called in help from local holiday letting experts Unique Cottages, who have been brilliant at guiding us through what building works we needed to carry out and to give guests a seamless booking experience. Whilst staying in the cottage, the Preston Hall team will be on hand to help with any recommendations or for any questions that guests have.

All going well, the builders and decorators should be finished in early December, and the cottage available for lease in January. After all the work and thought that has gone into it making the cottage so cosy, we could not turn down the chance to stay in it first for Christmas!
