Interior Inspiration
Autumn Interior Refresh Ideas
With Diary Cottage just completed, we are very much in the mindset of making homes ‘homely’. We have been doing quite a lot of research around interiors and thought that it might be helpful to share some of our upcycling tips, some of the companies we use regularly, but also some new ones that we have come across.
To help get excited for the cosier weather, we may even do a little bit of a rejig or a refresh in some of the bedrooms and main rooms in the house. We are basically trying to get ourselves enthused for being inside for the Winter ahead!
Tip 1
I think one of cheapest and easiest ways to make a room feel different is to either change the lampshades or the cushions. If you are quite artistic you could even update a plain lampshade by painting it yourself – we have actually done this in some of our holiday lets.
Tip 2
Another idea is updating your hardware so perhaps the wardrobe door handles or the knobs of a chest of drawers. Its amazing what a difference this makes and gives the piece of furniture a completely different feel.
Tip 3
Recover a headboard. We actually do some of our headboards ourselves which isn’t too difficult, you just need fabric and a staple gun. This really makes a bedroom feel like a different room and you normally only need 2m of fabric to do this.
Tip 4
How about reframing some of the pictures you might have on the walls. Perhaps it is something that you’ve always wanted to do so just need the push to get it done, or you have a print that is sat there unframed. Getting a new frame will make the artwork feel like a totally different piece. They don’t need to be expensive either.
Tip 5
Have a think about painting a bit of furniture for a colour pop in a room. You could even add a decorative edging to it. This could be scalloped or ziggy. These can then be painting so that the piece of furniture looks like it always had them.
Some companies that we use are below and hope that they give you a bit of inspiration or perhaps a lift in your home.
