Brunch Or Afternoon Tea Spots

Five Local Cafes

When time isn’t so much of an issue for us we love popping out for brunch or tea and cake with the children. Generally, cafes are a little quieter at this time of day and it means that we don’t have everyone staring at our badly behaved children and that we might be allowed to come back again.

We definitely have ones we go to quite a bit and sometimes we like to try new ones. We thought we’d share some of those as a nice outing over the Easter break.

Tyninghame Smithy, Tyninghame, East Lothian

Located in the centre of Tyninghame opposite the village hall, this picturesque café is delightful. The perfect spot for either a walk before or after on the stunning Tyninghame Beach which is a short drive from here.

The Loft, Haddington, East Lothian

Slightly hidden behind the Corn Exchange in the centre of Haddington, this is a fab café for doing a quick bit of work, a light lunch or a yummy cake. It has tonnes of parking and has a take away café on the ground floor that makes it even easier if you don’t want to inflict your family on the general public.

Drift, North Berwick, East Lothian

Set on the cliffs, this breath-taking view only adds to the delicious goodies served inside. You could probably sit here all day and stare out to sea if it wasn’t so popular. Worth getting there early to get the best seats by the window. Again, some great walks from here.

Steampunk, North Berwick, East Lothian

On my list to visit, this has come highly recommended by friends. They roast their own coffee on site and have a fun calendar of events including pizza parties on the first weekend of each month. Lovely walking about North Berwick too.

Archipelago, New Town, Edinburgh

This has been a favourite since we lived in Edinburgh. It has tasty cakes and coffee, but their bread is worth buying to take home. We go through a lot of this.

If you try them out let us know what you think.
